My 75 Hard Journey: Lessons in Discipline, Resilience, and Growth

When I started the 75 Hard program, I thought it would be just another fitness challenge. I imagined that the hardest part would be the intense workouts, the strict diet, or drinking a gallon of water every day. But what I quickly realized is that this program is not just about physical endurance—it’s a mental war you wage with yourself.

The Hardest Days Are When You Face Yourself

There were days during 75 Hard that tested me in ways I hadn’t expected. One of the hardest days happened during a family vacation in Utah. I was outside in blistering cold weather, something I’m not used to living in Florida. There were moments during my outdoor workouts when I could have easily quit. But I didn’t. The challenge wasn’t just the cold. It was fighting the voice in my head that told me to stop.

Another challenge came with Florida’s downpours. Imagine being soaked to the bone but knowing you still have to finish that workout. Quitting would’ve been easy, but giving in wasn’t an option. Completing these workouts under such conditions wasn’t just about physical strength; it was about proving to myself that I could stick to my word, no matter what.

Discipline Over Motivation

People often say motivation is the key to success. But after 75 Hard, I realize motivation is fleeting. Discipline, on the other hand, is what separates those who succeed from those who don’t. Waking up every day, knowing I had to read, work out twice, and stay on track with my diet—it wasn’t easy. There were plenty of days I didn’t feel like doing any of it, but that’s where discipline kicked in.

Sticking to a routine wasn’t just about checking off boxes. It was about committing to myself, even when no one was watching. It was about showing up, every single day, no matter the circumstances.

The Unexpected Challenge: Drinking a Gallon of Water

Out of all the tasks, I thought drinking a gallon of water daily would be the easiest. Turns out, it was one of the hardest. Consistently drinking that much water tested my patience and my ability to plan. There were days I found myself chugging water late into the night just to make sure I hit the requirement. It wasn’t about hydration anymore—it was about keeping a promise to myself.

Reading: The Lifeline I Didn’t Expect

Reading a book a day might sound like a small part of the challenge, but it quickly became a lifeline. During this journey, I turned to books that focused on business and personal development. It wasn’t just about learning—it was about evolving. Every book gave me something to reflect on and apply in my life. It became a daily ritual that I continue to this day, even after completing the program.

Growth Comes From Doing Hard Things

The most significant takeaway from 75 Hard isn’t that I lost weight or built muscle—though I did both. It’s that I learned to stop negotiating with myself. I stopped making excuses for why I couldn’t do something. Growth happens in those moments when you want to quit but choose to push through.

This program taught me that doing hard things isn’t about proving something to others. It’s about showing yourself what you’re capable of. The journey is about becoming the person who doesn’t quit, no matter what.

Call to Action: What’s Next?

Completing 75 Hard wasn’t the end of my journey—it was just the beginning. I now approach life and business with a renewed sense of discipline and focus. The question is: What are you willing to do to reach your next level? Will you push yourself beyond your limits? Start by keeping one promise to yourself, and see where it takes you.
